A steel cylinder is a lot tougher than an aluminium one, making it less likely to dent. If properly cared for it will last longer than an aluminium cylinder. However, steel rusts with exposure to moisture and thus needs more careful care.
Because steel is stronger it can be handle higher pressures with a thinner wall thickness, making a steel cylinder smaller and lighter than an aluminium one of similar capacity.
Also If you want to use higher pressures (e.g. 300 bar), you will need to use a DINÂ valve.
