1. What Makes the Huben Different?

Most PCP airguns use a hammer that strikes a valve to release compressed air.

The Huben system works differently.

The K1 and GK1 use a hammerless pressure-operated mechanism. When the trigger releases the mechanism, regulated air pressure is used as part of the valve-opening and resetting cycle.

This provides several advantages:

  • Fewer moving parts
  • Very little firing vibration

The GK1 takes the Huben operating system and packages it into an extremely compact PCP pistol.

4. Understanding Regulator Pressure

The regulator controls the pressure available to the firing system.

Increasing regulator pressure provides more pressure behind the valve, but more pressure does not automatically mean a better tune.

Higher regulator pressure normally results in:

  • Greater potential power
  • Greater air consumption
  • Increased demand on the valve system
  • Fewer shots per fill if not tuned efficiently

Lower pressure can provide:

  • Better efficiency
  • Higher shot count
  • Excellent pellet performance
  • Reduced air usage

The objective is therefore not to find the highest possible regulator pressure.

The objective is to find the lowest regulator pressure that reliably produces the required velocity and accuracy with the chosen ammunition.

 

5. Recommended K1 Regulator Pressures

A very useful general working range for the Huben K1 is:

150–180 BAR

For many owners this provides an excellent balance between power, reliability and efficiency.

These are starting guidelines, not compulsory settings.

Different generations of K1 barrels and individual rifles may prefer different settings.

Always use a chronograph when making meaningful tuning changes.

 

6. VERY IMPORTANT – The 31-Click Power-Wheel Rule

 

One of the most useful K1 tuning rules is:

DO NOT OPEN THE POWER WHEEL MORE THAN APPROXIMATELY 31 CLICKS FROM LOW.

Continuing to open the power wheel beyond approximately 30–31 clicks normally results in rapidly increasing air consumption without a proportional increase in useful velocity.

In other words:

You start wasting air.

If you require substantially more velocity while already approaching 31 clicks, the answer is generally not to continue opening the power wheel.

Instead:

  1. Check your ammunition weight.
  2. Check your current regulator pressure.
  3. Consider increasing regulator pressure appropriately.
  4. Return to a sensible power-wheel position.
  5. Retune using a chronograph.
  6. Find the point where velocity stabilises without excessive air consumption.

Example

If a heavy slug requires significantly more power and you are already at 30–31 clicks:

Do not keep opening the power wheel.

A higher regulator pressure combined with a more efficient valve setting will normally be preferable.

 

7. Why Maximum Power Is Not Always Best

Huben rifles can produce impressive velocities.

That doesn’t mean the highest possible velocity will produce the best accuracy.

Every projectile has a velocity range where it performs best.

Driving ammunition too fast can result in:

  • Larger groups
  • More flyers
  • Increased noise
  • Poorer air efficiency
  • Reduced shot count
  • Increased regulator demand
  • Greater ammunition sensitivity

The best Huben tune normally represents a balance between:

Accuracy + Consistency + Power + Efficiency

A chronograph is therefore one of the most useful accessories a Huben owner can buy.

 

8. VERY IMPORTANT – Do Not Shoot Below Suitable Operating Pressure

This is one of the most important Huben safety and reliability rules.

DO NOT SHOOT THE HUBEN BELOW REGULATED PRESSURE.

As cylinder pressure approaches regulator pressure, there is no longer sufficient pressure differential for the system to operate exactly as intended.

As a good safety measure:

Keep cylinder pressure at least approximately 50 bar above your selected regulator pressure.

If your regulator is set to:

170 bar

consider approximately:

220 bar

a sensible refill point.

Do not continue trying to squeeze extra shots from the rifle.

 

9. What Can Happen If You Shoot Below Regulated Pressure?

Possible symptoms include:

  • Significant velocity reduction

  • Valve remaining partially open
  • Air leaking
  • Large pressure loss
  • In extreme cases, complete dumping of cylinder air

Because the Huben is pressure operated, maintaining sufficient cylinder pressure above regulator pressure is more important than on many conventional PCP rifles.

Simple rule:

When the regulator starts falling, shooting stops.

 

10. Pellet or Slug?

One of the Huben’s greatest advantages is its ability to shoot both.

However, do not assume that slugs are automatically better.

High-quality pellets can be exceptionally accurate and extremely efficient from a Huben.

Pellets generally offer:

  • Excellent accuracy
  • Lower regulator requirements
  • Better air efficiency
  • More shots per fill

  • Excellent performance at normal airgun ranges

Slugs generally offer:

  • Higher ballistic coefficient

For long-range shooting, a correctly matched slug can be exceptional.

For general shooting, a good pellet may actually provide the better overall package.

15. Why Loose Slugs Can Cause Huben Magazine Problems

17. Magazine Lock Warning

21. Filling the Huben K1 & GK1

Both the K1 and GK1 have a maximum cylinder pressure of:

350 BAR / APPROXIMATELY 5,000 PSI

This is higher than the working pressure of many PCP airguns.

22. Does a Huben Have to Be Filled to 350 Bar?

NO.

350 bar is the maximum allowable fill pressure, not the pressure you must reach before shooting.

The rifle can be filled to:

  • 250 bar
  • 280 bar
  • 300 bar
  • 320 bar
  • 350 bar

provided you maintain sufficient pressure above the regulator setting.

The difference is primarily the amount of stored air available.

A 300-bar fill will simply give fewer shots than a 350-bar fill.

31. Using a 300-Bar Dive or SCBA Cylinder

A high-pressure storage cylinder is:

  • Fast
  • Silent
  • Convenient
  • Extremely easy to use

However, a 300-bar cylinder cannot give a Huben a true 350-bar fill.

The pressures equalise, meaning the rifle will normally finish slightly below the starting bottle pressure.

That does not prevent you from using it.

A 300-bar bottle is still an excellent filling solution if the resulting shot count meets your needs.

 

32. Hybrid Filling

Another useful option is:

Fill electrically or from a bottle to approximately 300 bar.

Then, where required:

Use the Huben HB35 for the final top-up.

This dramatically reduces the amount of hand pumping required.

 

33. Correct Huben Filling Procedure

Before filling:

  1. Make sure the airgun is safe.
  2. Inspect the fill probe.
  3. Inspect fill-probe O-rings.
  4. Make sure the probe and fill port are clean.
  5. Connect the correctly rated filling equipment.
  6. Start filling gradually.

Moisture is one of the biggest long-term enemies of PCP equipment.

More than approximately 31 power-wheel clicks is normally wasted air rather than an efficient tune.

 

38. Barrel Cleaning

Do not automatically clean the barrel after every shooting session.

Airgun barrels frequently shoot extremely well with some lead conditioning in the bore.

Clean when:

  • Accuracy suddenly deteriorates
  • Changing ammunition produces persistent problems
  • The barrel is visibly contaminated
  • There is a known reason to clean it

Use:

  • Appropriate airgun cleaning equipment
  • Non-damaging pull-through systems
  • Suitable cleaning products

Avoid damaging the crown.

After cleaning, expect the barrel to require several shots before returning to its normal conditioned state.

 

39. O-Rings and Lubrication

The Huben operates at extremely high pressure.

Seal condition is therefore important.

Do not introduce ordinary petroleum oils into the high-pressure air system.

 

40. Storage

Do not intentionally empty your Huben every time it is stored.

Leaving appropriate pressure inside the system can help keep seals seated and reduce contamination entering the air system.

Store the gun:

  • Unloaded
  • Securely
  • In a dry environment
  • Away from unauthorised users
  • With suitable pressure remaining in the cylinder

 

41. Recommended Huben Owner’s Equipment

A serious Huben owner should ideally have:

  • Chronograph
  • Suitable 300–400 bar filling equipment
  • Moisture filtration
  • Correct Huben fill probe
  • Spare fill-probe O-rings
  • Accurate pressure gauges
  • Pellet seating tool
  • Micrometer or quality measuring equipment for slugs
  • Suitable barrel-cleaning equipment
  • Several ammunition options for testing

A chronograph is particularly important.

Without one, tuning becomes guesswork.

 

42. Good Starting Ammunition Package

For a new .22 Huben K1 owner, we recommend testing at least the following:

Pellet – Medium/Heavy

44. The Huben Do’s and Don’ts

DO

  • Use clean, dry compressed air.
  • Use a chronograph when tuning.
  • Keep cylinder pressure safely above regulator pressure.
  • Refill when regulated pressure begins to fall.
  • Seat ammunition correctly.
  • Test different pellets and slugs.
  • Record regulator and power settings.
  • Inspect fill-probe O-rings.
  • Use properly rated filling equipment.
  • Allow compressors to cool.
  • Use suitable moisture filtration.
  • Keep the magazine locking mechanism correctly positioned.

DON’T

  • Do not exceed 350 bar.
  • Do not use oxygen.
  • Do not shoot below regulated pressure.
  • Do not shoot with the magazine loading hatch in the open position.
  • Do not keep firing when regulator pressure starts dropping.
  • Do not open the power wheel excessively.
  • Do not normally exceed approximately 31 clicks from low.
  • Do not force oversized slugs.
  • Do not use ammunition that repeatedly moves forward and jams the magazine.
  • Do not pull the trigger repeatedly against a jammed magazine.
  • Do not exceed a compressor’s recommended working pressure.
  • Do not remove a fill probe before bleeding the hose.

45. The Five Golden Huben Rules

If you remember nothing else from this guide, remember these five rules:

RULE 1 – Never shoot below suitable regulated operating pressure.

Keep a healthy pressure difference between cylinder and regulator.

A good general safety guideline is approximately 50 bar above regulator pressure.

RULE 2 – Do not exceed approximately 31 power-wheel clicks.

If you need more performance, reconsider regulator pressure instead of simply wasting more air.

RULE 3 – Seat your ammunition properly.

A loose or protruding pellet or slug can interfere with the integrated magazine.

RULE 4 – Never exceed 350 bar.

350 bar is the Huben’s maximum, not its required starting pressure.

RULE 5 – Use compressed air only.

Never fill a Huben with oxygen.

 

46. Final Thoughts

The Huben K1 and GK1 are extraordinary PCP airguns.

They offer a combination of:
